It’s a beautiful piece of Umayyad architecture that stands at the highest point of the Citadel, giving it a striking and symbolic presence. Although much of the original structure is no longer intact, you can still see the foundation layout, columns, and the Mihrab (the niche that points toward Mecca), which give a glimpse into its architectural design. One particularly interesting feature is the evidence of vaulted roofing, which was quite advanced for its time and rare in the Levant before the 9th century. The area around the mosque, within the Amman Citadel, is rich in history. You can walk among ruins from different periods Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic all in one place. The views over Amman from the top are absolutely breathtaking, and the peaceful atmosphere adds to the experience. While the mosque itself is mostly ruins now, it still carries great spiritual and historical significance, especially for those interested in Islamic history or ancient architecture.
