Everyone who wants to visit Wadi Rum MUST READ this. Jabal Rum Camp is one of the few accommodations that is ROAD ACCESSIBLE ie you can drive there with your rental car (standard insurance will cover). Most of the others located in the desert are not. The host will try to scam you as follows: they will MISLEAD by advertising that free parking is included. This makes you think that since you can park for free, you can therefore drive to the accommodation. However, they will eventually tell you to meet at the free parking lot at the village from where they will drive you to the accommodation for say JD20 per person, which they would then tell you would be waived if you join their tour. If you should decide to stay with them but not join their tour, you would find out that the JD20 quoted is for ONE WAY and only when you are done with your stay and need to go back to the village, by which time you would have no choice but to cough up the additional money unless you want to walk the 15+km back to the village. Should you ever decline their transport and say that you will drive to the accommodation yourself, they will discourage you by telling you that your car might get stuck in the sand etc - maybe, but the main issue is that your rental car insurance will likely not cover. If you insist, the lies will start coming, including how the police will arrest you for driving in the desert (not true, no such prohibition). This transport arrangement is essentially set up so that you are captive to their tours for which they will fleece you. The "free transport" is just bait and switch. Another tell tale sign to such a scheme is that their actual location/address is never revealed, even after you have booked. Their advertised accommodation price is also quite low - they cream you off through the tours as well as the meals because when you are in the middle of nowhere and are captive to them, what can you do. Not so with JRC. The host is honest and you are free to go with any tour operator. JRC is associated with Qusay, a tour operator (JRC will connect you with him). I went with him and his price is reasonable and he is an honest guy to deal with. You can also go to Disah for meals. With the other camps, you are stuck with their meals and will be fleeced.
