Not much left of it, but interesting to see alongside other structures in the old Aqaba city.

These are the remains of Islamic Ayla's early Abassid congregational mosque. Two new information panels provide the historical and architectural background needed to make sense of this large but ruined building. The northwestern square corner room is thought to be the base of the mosque's minaret (see photo). The lower courses of the semicircular mihrab is discernable in the southern qiblah wall (see photo). The main entrance of the mosque is recognizable by the steps and a landing platform off the northern wall (see photo). A gratifying find is to see one of the columns inscribed with an ancient Arabic graffiti (see photo). The place is visually appealing and the information provided helpful.
